Nike gets kudos for creating their first plus sized line of athletic wear and athleisuer styles thats dedicated to sixes from 1x -3x . Workout leggings in a multitude of vibrant colors (not just black )hoodies, short-sleeved tees, to comfy sports bras are the staple of the Spring/Summer 2017 collection . This Nike drop is it’s first and it reaches out to those women who haven’t been able to wear the brand before. But of course the internet trolls had to pop up and spread hate per usual with a series of tweets “fat -shaming the actual models who participated in the Nike campaign. Grace Victory , one of the gorgeous NIKE curvy models shut down a lot of haters this week –
Fat shaming me and my girl on our NIKE campaign is hilarious ! We will be laughing all the way to the damn bank ” – Grace Victory
Victory Graced shared with Refinery 29 on how she deals with body -insecurities and fat shaming on the daily . Victory states that she battled with an eating disorder and how some days she was so ashamed of her body that she didn’t want to get dressed. We all have body insecurities and she is not alone . Internet trolls claim that NIKE is promoting obesity with this new campaign . Crazy right ? Some even insinuated that plus-size women can’t be health and that NIKE shouldn’t be making clothes for them .
Nike made a statement via press release : “Nike recognizes that women are stronger, bolder, and more outspoken than ever…In today’s world, sport is no longer something that she does, it’s who she is. The days where we have to add ‘female’ before ‘athlete’ are over. She is an athlete, period. And having helped fuel this cultural shift, we celebrate these athletes’ diversity, from ethnicity to body shape.”
